My Story
I believe in channeling my creativity and inspiration for my work is this beautiful life. tonantzin aztec dance Canada is born out of a combination of my elders inspirational teachings in the aztec culture in Mexico, my education, training and experience, which allows my perspective as an artist to remain traditional yet contemporary. Art is how I battle against the indifference of humans and offer new ways of viewing the world.
Artist Bio
ATLANYOTZIN (Asalia)
began studying Mexican folklore, traditional Aztec dance, theater, contemporary dance and ballet from an early age. Her studies also included Pre-Hispanic culture and dance at the Zemanahuac traditional cultural school. Asalia began dancing in Canada since 2006 and has been Artistic Director of the Tonantzin Collective of Aztec dance since 2013. Her work has been funded and recognized many times with the Ontario Arts Council. She has collaborated with many professional ballet and contemporary dancers and helps to direct dance and theater projects internationally. Including tours to Nepal with Mexican Folk Ballet through the Canada Arts Council. Since 2013 has continuously been performing at Pow Wows and cultural festivals across Canada. Her most recently performance was in the"return" in BANFF Alberta Canada choreographed by Jacob Boehme,

DANCE AND OLLINCUEPA WORKSHOPS
Collective tonantzin now offering various different classes for students of every level. At the beginner’s level, I offer a variety of lessons to loosen up your body and get you started with basic aztec dance movements. Discover your inner magic and mystic power through the aztec dance movements and connect with your nahual animal.

International folk festival in Nepal, Choreographer and dancer
I was granted by Canada Arts Council to bring my work to Nepal. I had a touring with the mexican folk ballet based in Toronto to Nepal as a choreographer and dance teacher. We did a tour through Nepal, visiting some cities around Nepal.

Cihuacoatl prehispanic story
I put together a team work creating a short piece of theater in Toronto. We presented one of the many stories kept by oral tradition in the aztec / mexhica culture, under the name Cihuacoatl which was well received by public
